Most nationalities need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before arriving, which you can apply for online through the official Sri Lanka ETA portal. The standard tourist ETA gives you 30 days (extendable to 90) and is usually approved within a day or two. We recommend applying at least a week before you travel. A small number of nationalities receive a free visa on arrival. When you enquire with us, we will confirm exactly what your passport requires.

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons, which means different regions are at their best at different times of year. The good news is that there is really no bad time to visit overall. As a rough guide:

• November to April: Best for the south and west coasts, Colombo, Kandy and the Cultural Triangle
• May to September: Best for the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) and the hill country

Sri Lanka is genuinely one of the best wildlife destinations in Asia. Udawalawe National Park offers almost guaranteed elephant sightings on a morning safari. Yala National Park has one of the world's highest densities of leopards. Minneriya and Kaudulla are famous for the annual elephant gathering, which runs roughly from July to October. Blue whale and sperm whale watching off Mirissa is world-class between November and April. We include wildlife days in your itinerary based on season and what interests you most.

Our quotes are fully itemised. A typical tour includes your private air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking chauffeur-guide every day, all hotel accommodation at your chosen standard, airport pickup and all in-country transfers, national park entrance fees and safari jeep hire, and any activity entrance fees listed in your itinerary. International flights and travel insurance are not included. We are completely transparent about every cost and nothing is hidden.

Because every itinerary is custom-built, the price depends on your trip length, hotel grade and group size. As a general guide, a 10-day private tour for two people in comfortable mid-range hotels typically costs between USD 1,800 and 2,800, all-inclusive except flights. Sri Lankan food is vibrant and varied. Rice and curry, fresh seafood on the coast, hoppers, kottu roti and tropical fruit are highlights that most visitors love. Vegetarian and vegan travellers are well catered for, as Sri Lanka has a long tradition of plant-based cooking. If you have specific dietary requirements (gluten-free, halal, severe allergies or anything else), please let us know when you enquire. We will brief your driver-guide and help select suitable restaurants throughout your trip.

For the best hotel availability and peace of mind, we suggest enquiring 2 to 3 months ahead, particularly during peak season from December to March and over school holiday periods.
